Case History – Carol* - Bullying
Carol came to see me about a trauma which happened when she was 16, involving a bullying coworker. Several incidents occurred. We picked the most distressing one, involving accusations of theft, to work on.
Using reframing and humour, in one 20 minute session we uncovered and tapped on various issues around the incident including guilt, shame, worthiness, anger, frustration, as well as a willingness to let the issue go (forgiveness). At any rate we moved the problem from 8/10 to 0/10, after several rounds, and resolving several aspects. Several testings and future pacing confirmed the result.
I did a six week follow-up with Carol when she reported that the emotion surrounding the incident had vanished and along with it, she was unable to achieve the same emotional intensity about similar incidents. One other refreshing side-benefit – her hayfever symptoms, which had begun after the original trauma, have all but disappeared – she reports a 1 on a scale of 0-10 intensity, with symptoms appearing “hardly ever.”
With thanks
