Forgive me for being dramatic, but conditional happiness is a social disease, in my opinion. "I can't be happy until...." is a pattern of thinking which prevents us from connecting to our authentic selves, and those things in life which bring spiritual peace.

 

What If I _____ And I’m Still Unhappy?

(get the job, lose the weight, am successful in business, get the right relationship, etc).

Thinking about your life, in what areas have you set up your happiness to depend on external circumstances, or worse, things/objects/possessions? (Be honest)

 

This is external conditional happiness. (“I won’t feel good until he/she/they/it….” Or “I won’t be able to be happy until…..happens.”) These are rule beliefs which can only be lose/lose for you. Isn’t it possible that you could get that thing you seek, that you assume to be missing, and still not feel good? And, equally, isn’t it possible that the thing you seek is already here in some form, just not in the place/timeliness/amount etc you want it, i.e. according to the rules you have set up?

 

The ONLY way to feel good, is to feel good ANYWAY, regardless of circumstances around you. And when you begin to feel good regardless of what life presents you with, you will begin to attract the things you want automatically and very naturally, taking the fast lane to emotional riches. And then, - heaven forbid – other pleasant coincidences in life begin happening, the right people show up, your relationships improve, - gasp - you get a promotion or raise….

 

Choosing to feel good now, regardless of the current situation is crucial because this is the only means by which you will change what you are attracting into your life, on a long term basis. The conscious choice to be an appreciator when life presents you with something you don’t want is the FASTEST way to change your emotional point of attraction and what you are attracting into your life.

 

So, what if I _____ and I’m still unhappy? Choose to be happy within yourself anyway, because as long as you make external success or events the condition of your happiness, you will spend life chasing rainbows rather than CHOOSING happiness anyway. In Wayne Dyer’s words, “happiness is something you decide on ahead of time”. In each individual moment in time you have the power to take a positive perspective, but will you choose to?
